KITCHEN HUB

Together, we are creating a place that demonstrates the opportunities for inclusive and diverse spatial production processes through self-determination, self-organization, and design of our own social and physical surroundings.

The KITCHEN-HUB is a place for encounters and mutual exchange between newcomers and established residents. As the new headquarters of the Über den Tellerrand association, it not only welcomes migrants but also offers an opportunity to play an active role in shaping urban spaces – newcomers give cooking courses for Berliners and everyone cooks, works, and thinks together. In a neutral setting, beyond the reach of prejudices and media images, newcomers and established residents can learn from one another and experience new cultures. Together, we are creating a place that demonstrates the opportunities for inclusive and diverse spatial production processes through self-determination, self-organization, and design of our own social and physical surroundings.

The KITCHEN-HUB is the result of a close cooperation between Über den Tellerrand, the Habitat Unit at the School of Architecture at the Technische Universität Berlin, and the organisation CoCoon – contextual construction. Conception, planning, and construction were performed by a team of students, migrants, teaching staff, and volunteers.
